どんな

What kind of…?

どんな asks about the type or qualities of a noun.

In plain language

どんな asks “what kind of…?” It asks for a description, not simply a name or a yes-or-no answer.

When to use it

Use it to ask about someone’s tastes, the character of a place, or what a person is like.

How to build it

Put どんな immediately before a noun: どんな音楽 (“what kind of music”), どんな町 (“what kind of town”), どんな人 (“what kind of person”). Then finish the question.
